Within the limits of this retrospective clinical study, the conclusions show that the socket filling can increase the probability of preservation of the alveolar ridge and / or prevent sinus pneumatization. Therefore, maintenance of the alveolar ridge in the posterior maxillary area can reduce the indication for a sinus graft. Moreover, the relationship between the sinus floor and the topographic position of the teeth to be extracted could play a role in the decision-making concerning implant placement with or without sinus graft. A sinus graft seems necessary in most Class 4 cases, when the roots are in close proximity to the sinus.
