In order to place implants in the atrophic posterior mandible, bone augmentation is often required. Many techniques are proposed, but the ideal option whenever possible is the use of short implants. Autogenous bone remains the reference for onlay grafts in vertical augmentation. This two-stage procedure is the most documented and it leads to a considerable increase in ridge height. In this article, two clinical cases of bone grafts harvested from intra-oral and extra-oral donor sitesare presented to illustrate the onlay graft technique.
