The decision for implant surgery must take into consideration the patient's general health, the oral conditions and dental hygiene. However, some diseases, and certain treatments or physiological modifications make it difficult or impossible to consider implant surgery
Assessing the risk factors and precisely defining the contraindications of implant surgery are a difficult task nowadays, as clinical studies are often contradictory. Moreover, the causal link between the pathologies and implant failure or between an implant and the release of a pathology cannot be strictly established due to the frequent combination of several predisposing factors.
This article presents the different pathological and / or physiological modifications of the patient's general health and what to do in some cases to make them eligible for functional and aesthetic implant-retained overdenture restoration without any major risks.
